Latest news

The coronavirus pandemic has affected nearly all human beings on Planet Earth so there is no surprise that the mountain bike racing season was no exception. Perhaps you have noticed information in the media – first about the newly established World Cup calendar concentrated into the period of September-October 2020 and later about one by one cancellations of all individual WC rounds, except the one in Nové Město na Moravě (CZE).

Due to the rather unusual situation we have been granted with a chance to organize 2 rounds of the most prestigious MTB racing series. Therefore the program looks like this. You can look forward to 4 races of Elite Men and Women categories (2x Short Track and 2x Cross-country) and together with U23 and Junior categories it makes a hefty total of 14 individual races! All action will be happening on traditional grounds next to the Vysočina Arena; however, the cross-country circuit will be prepared in 2 slightly distinct variations. The longer and physically more demanding version will be used for racing on Thursday and the one which is more playful and flowy will be ridden on Saturday (U23 and Juniors) and Sunday (Elite). Should the event have to happen without spectators, at least you can look forward to a traditional RedBull TV broadcast from all main races!

The “double World Cup” in Nové Město should be a great fit with the following MTB World Championships, which are planned for the subsequent week (October 7 – 11) in a nearby town of Leogang (Austria). That means an extremely concentrated, yet still meaningful racing program for the mountain biking pros from all over the world!

We strongly believe in the positive course of worldwide pandemic. Unfortunately, we still cannot tell if it will be possible to prepare the event in usual scale. However, we can state one thing: Nové Město is ready and the organizing team is eager to prepare a fabulous event!

The biggest question mark is related to the attendance of spectators in the Arena. Obviously, the decision will be made upon the current governmental safety measures. Now it is only allowed to organize events for up to 1000 participants in our country. Therefore, it is fairly OK to run our event without spectators (yes, all the riders with their teams, organizing team, medicals, TV crew; that all makes a total of almost 1000 heads). But there is a good chance that the restrictions could be loosened (hopefully beginning September) – let’s all hope for this scenario!

Due to the worldwide safety measures it is significantly restricted to travel, especially from oversees to Europe. And that is now our biggest concern: together with National Sports Agency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs we work hard on preparing reasonable conditions which will allow active attendance for all riders, no matter which country are they arriving from.

It is understandable that under current conditions it does not make sense to sell tickets. Therefore, we will not launch the pre-sale until the moment when there will be a good chance to organize the event with spectators. Previously sold tickets will be of course valid for the same range of days (= from Friday to Sunday). Additional racing days would work like this: on Tuesday there would be free entrance to the Arena and for Thursday would be launched a sale of additional 1-day ticket. Should the event have to happen without spectators, the previously sold tickets would be transferred to next year when we’re awaiting to organize the World Cup again in our traditional spring date (May 14 – 16, 2021). Hopefully all these questions will be answered no later than in the beginning of September.

We want to use this opportunity and thank for all positive messages, which we daily encounter through our email and FB + IG. We believe that after all we will have a chance to meet all of you, the best mountain biking fans in the world, in the Vysočina Arena once again this year!
