WINNERS OF THE FRIDAY'S SHORT TRACK RACE
Annika Langvad (DEN) and Samuel Gaze (NZL), both factory riders from Specialized Racing, took the gold in the twenty-five-minute long Short Track race that took place today early morning. Spectators in Nové Město na Moravě saw two thrilling battles in both categories. Both women’s and men’s races were very dramatic until the very last metres. Having managed to keep Pauline Ferrand Prevot (FRA) and Jolanda Neff (SUI) behind her rear wheel, Langvad took the victory in the last metres, just as she had done in Albstadt a week before. Jitka Škarnitzlová pleased Czech fans, having finished 14th in the race that lasted ten laps.
Samuel Gaze was riding in the front group of riders from the very start. The men’s battle for positions lasted twelve laps, and it was Gaze who eventually took the victory and left Mathieu van der Poel (NED) and Nino Schurter (SUI) behind. Both Czech riders who started in the race finished worse than the sixteenth, which would give them the right to start in the first two rows on Sunday: Jan Škarnitzl finished 18th, Jaroslav Kulhavý had a flat tire and crossed the finish line on 31st place.
