Sunday’s program at the Mountain Bike World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě showcased exactly why the Vysočina Arena ranks among the world’s most famous mountain biking destinations. Great weather, packed grandstands, thousands of fans lining the course, and a fantastic atmosphere from the first race to the last.
The day kicked off with the junior women’s race, and that race got the home crowd fired up perhaps more than any other. The Czech national team riders confirmed their fantastic form from the previous days, and two of them made it onto the podium. Junior World Champion Barbora Bukovská finished in an excellent 2nd place after a battle with Switzerland’s Anja Grossmann, while Lucie Grohová claimed the bronze. Justýna Novotná’s 6th-place finish underscored the Czech team’s outstanding performance.
The Vysočina Arena was buzzing from early morning, and the fans created an atmosphere for the young racers that even the elite category might envy at other World Cup races.
At noon, it was time for the elite women’s race. Austrian mountain biker Laura Stigger (Specialized Factory Racing) claimed her first victory in Nové Město na Moravě, confirming the strength of the Specialized Factory Racing team, which followed up on Sina Frei’s triumph in the opening race in South Korea. Jenny Rissveds (SWE) finished second, and Sina Frei (SUI) came in third.
Among the Czech representatives, Tereza Tvarůžková fared the best, finishing in 46th place. Adéla Holubová finished 51st and Jitka Čábelická 61st.
The highlight of the afternoon was the men’s elite race, in which fans were particularly looking forward to seeing Tom Pidcock. The British star did not disappoint and, after a dominant performance, secured his fifth victory in Nové Město na Moravě. Second place went to the superbly riding Frenchman Luca Martin, while third place was claimed by Filippo Colombo of Switzerland.
Ondřej Cink also delivered an excellent performance, working his way up to 20th place after a slow start and thus achieving his pre-race goal. Jan Sáska also added points to the world rankings with a 59th-place finish.
Nové Město na Moravě thus once again confirmed why it ranks among the most iconic stops on the Mountain Bike World Cup circuit. The Vysočina Arena was literally buzzing with mountain biking all weekend, and the fans created an atmosphere that the riders will remember for a long time to come.
