Tip for a cycling trip: To the star of the Vysočina Region

Many fans come to Vysočina with their bikes and the desire to experience their own adventurous trip in the break between cheering at the World Cup races. It is for them that we, in cooperation with the Czech Tourism agency and the destination organization Koruna Vysočiny, bring this tip for a trip that starts and ends right in the heart of the mountain bike World Cup action.

The 25-kilometer circuit, which takes visitors past the original architecture inscribed on the UNESCO list, begins in the modern surroundings of the Vysočina Arena. The first steps of the route lead to Harusák hill, a place with a rich sporting history. It is here that a famous tourist chalet built in a typical mountain style once stood, where the history of the legendary Zlatá lyže ski race began in 1934. Although the chalet was destroyed by fire in 1942, its legacy in the region lives on; today, the top of the hill is adorned with a transmitter of Czech Radio Communications.
From Harusák hill, the path continues through Jiříkovice and then along a dirt road winding between ponds to Lhotka. Following quiet side roads, you will then reach the village of Vysoké, from where one of the most impressive views of the pilgrimage church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora opens. This UNESCO monument is the masterpiece of architect Jan Blažej Santini Aichel, who built it in a unique Baroque Gothic style. Viewing this architectural gem from afar is an unforgettable experience that perfectly illustrates Santini's ability to fit the building into the landscape.
The route then leads to the Žďár nad Sázavou Chateau complex, which was built on the foundations of a former Cistercian monastery. Visitors can see the Basilica Minor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas, whose core was the original convent church, or medieval gardens. A modern approach to history is provided by the interactive Museum of the New Generation, which presents the Cistercian legacy in an engaging way. In the immediate vicinity of the chateau is also the unique Lower Cemetery, another place where the brilliant Santini left his indelible mark.
The final part of the trip heads from Žďár past the Pilská reservoir, which serves as a popular leisure area for relaxation and sports. Following the cycle path, the route climbs to Stržanov and then the path leads past the Strž pond. After crossing the historic stone bridge, cyclists set off on a dirt road that takes them across Český Kopeček to the village of Sklené. The demanding climb in this section is rewarded with further panoramic views of the rolling landscape of the Žďár hills. In Vlachovice, the profile of the route finally breaks and the path now only pleasantly descends past the Ochoza forest along single trails back to the finish point in the Vysočina Arena.
